Take the Pledge
Did you know that 80% of crashes in Missouri are caused by distracted driving?
In recent years, cell phones and other mobile devices become increasingly available. And as the trend continues, these mobile devices become more and more a part of our everyday lives, whether that's checking your social media during lunch or replacing your alarm clock with a handy app.
The issues arrives when mobile devices enter another one of our daily activities: driving. Cell phones have begun to enter our driving habits and the distractions have already taken a serious toll. Sending or checking a text message can take your eyes off the road for an average of 4 seconds which, at a speed of 55mph, could take you the distance of several football fields. Unaware of the road ahead at the speed can have costly, even lethal consequences.
Distracted driving is especially an issue for our teen drivers in Kirksville, Lancaster, and Memphis. The temptation to check your phone is far greater, but the consequences that follow increase as well. Novice drivers, defined in the state of Missouri as age 21 or under, are establishing important driving habits that will last a lifetime; but more and more teens are admitting to using their phone on the road—this translates to a larger portion of the distracted driving crashes in the state and beyond.
In fact, novice drivers are prohibited from using any sort of mobile device for any activity outside of an emergency. For all the info, click the button below:
In February 2016, at least six different bills were introduced to apply the texting and driving ban to all drivers. For one example, read one of the bill's statutes below:
